On Saturday night last we joined the London branch of the Kilkenny Supporters Club along with invited guests Ann and Angela Downey, John Mackey and the All-Ireland winning pair of Liam Chunky O’Brien and Jackie Tyrrell.

Taking place at The Claddagh Ring, Hendon, London, the event marked the first formal function for the London group, bringing together Kilkenny GAA fans and natives from north and south of the City together.

Kevin Regan sat down with the two former All-Star recipents to talk about the London connection, Jackie’s adjustment to retirement now the league season is upon us and how James Stephens are getting on at club level.

On how he’s feeling with the games going on around him while he settles into inter-county retirement, Tyrrell says it’s a strange one, but it comes with perks.

“Yeah you know, it is a bit strange, it’s a bit different. This time of the year I don’t really miss it. The lads are in pre-season mode and the the hard slog is going.”

“It’s great though, I’m being invited to these kind of events, you can come over and enjoy yourself. The Super Bowl is on next weekend so I’ll be able to finally enjoy one of them, and I had a few pints last Sunday for the first time in a January in I don’t know how long.”

“Things are good. I’ve had great times with Kilkenny and I can look back with fond, fond memories.”

Check out the full video below and catch up on the camogie chats with Ann and Angela Downey here.

With Kilkenny in Walsh Cup Final action this Sunday, we’ll have full commentary on air and online from 2pm, live from Nowlan Park.
