Marble City Boxers are going international this weekend

Marble City Boxers have a team of four weighed into the Barum International Box Cup in Ilfracombe, England which runs from 19-21st November.

Competitors

Niall O’Donnell Schoolboy 65kgs

Tommy Fitzpatrick Schoolboy 34kgs

Josh Dowling Schoolboy 72kgs

Jack Johnson Junior 52kgs.

The lads all weighed in this morning making their respective weights with the draw being made at 12:30pm.

Quarter finals take place today with semi finals tomorrow and finals on Sunday. The competition will be extremely tough with the best clubs from all over Europe flying to North Devon to claim box cup titles.

This will be the 5th international Box Cup the club have attended, having previously attended the Monkstown Box cup in Dublin, Hull Box cup on two occasions, Wexford Box cup and the Odivelas Box Cup in Lisbon Portugal.

The international scene for the club has been extremely successful with the Marble City claiming Gold medals in every competition they’ve entered with a range of boxers and we hope to Continue that form here in England, it’s been a long while out of the ring, 18 months for some of the lads since their last competition but there is an air of confidence that they’ll rise to the occasion and put in a good performance.

What really matters in the bigger scheme of things getting back and winning provincial and national titles is where we want to be at but while we’re here we will do our utmost to win.

Anyone wanting to keep an eye on how the tournament is playing out for us can keep an eye on Marble City Boxing social media pages or listen to Scoreline on KCLR this weekend.
