Marble City Boxing Club are once again on the hunt for international success this weekend as the club travels with a 6 strong team to the Barum International Box Cup in Ilfracombe in England.
The team consists of Ava Mullins, who will compete internationally with the club for the first time in the Girl 2 54kg division. Philip Carthy who is also a first-timer on the International scene but one who carries significant experience having been crowned national champion last season and will compete at junior 40kgs.
Finn Cantwell will compete in his second international competition having taken silver at the Hull Box Cup in July, and will be debuting in a new weight class. Familiar faces and regular international competitors for the club sees Tommy Fitzpatrick Boy 3 40kg, Jack Johnson Junior 1 54kg, and Scott Delaney Boy 4 57kg once again put on the Club vest, no strangers to the big occasions having all boxed in national finals last season and international finals.
The club attended the Barum Box Cup last year and found themselves right up amongst the best clubs on the final medal table with Jack Johnson and Niall O’Donnell taking Gold, a feat Jack Johnson will hope to repeat this time with Tommy Fitzpatrick and Josh Dowling taking home silver.
The upcoming competition has been sold out for weeks now and competition will be extremely high with the best clubs and boxers traveling from all over Europe to take the crown of Barum Box Cup Champion.
A big ask for the Kilkenny club who have only been back training since the 19th of August but if there’s one club who have managed to defy the odds and consistently deliver big results then it’s the Marble City Boxing Club.
