Carlow sprinter Marcus Lawler flies out to Japan tomorrow to get ready for the Olympic games.
He will run in the 200 metres competition out there and is one of two locals heading out with Kilkenny’s Cliodhna Manning part of the mixed relay team.
Marcus got word only last week that he’s heading to Japan and explains what happens when they arrive.
“We go to our holding camp in Fukuroi where most of team Ireland are there, so the various different sports, athletics, boxing,” said Marcus.
“Different sports are going to be based around Japan but a lot of the main team Ireland will be in Fukuroi”.
“Some of them I know from training up in the Institute (sports) and I know a few athletics friends, obviously we’ve made some great friends in this sport too, so yeah we will be together over there in the holding camp, before heading up to Tokyo”.
Officially selected to represent Ireland at the Tokyo Olympic Games 🇯🇵
To the people in my corner and the people who have backed me all the way I owe a massive thank you!
