Scott continues medal rush with brilliant bronze in Tbilisi

The European Youth Athletics Championships was held in Tbilisi Georgia over the weekend.

Bobby Crowley and Molly Scott reach their respective finals at the European Youth Championships.

Molly Scott (St Laurence O’Toole) continued the Irish medal rush at the European Youth Championships in Tbilisi on Saturday with a magnificent bronze in the girls’ 100m hurdles final in 13.51 seconds.

Scott was in sizzling form at the championships setting national youth records in the heats and the semi-finals – her 13.32 in the semis was the second fastest run of the championships. Italy’s Desola Oki won the final in 13.30 with Viktoryia Zakharchuk (Belarus) second in 13.48.

Molly set a national youth 100m hurdles record when second in her heat in 13.47 seconds. Molly lined up in the semi final against Marisa Carvalho of Portugal who set the fastest time in the world this year in 13.34s when Molly hot on her heals is second place bettered the National record again in 13.32s to gain her rightful in the final.

Bobby Crowley continued he’s fine form in the 1500m when he ran an impressive 4.02.18s in a tactical semi-final covering the last 400m in 55s to secure a place in the final by crossing the line in first place of the 2nd heat.

It was a again a tactical race in the final and Bobby covered very move and kept in touch with the leaders, with 200m to the finish Bobby was caught up in been pushed and jostled around to lose his stride and it was an Agonising 5th place for Bobby in the final.

Bobby said after the race that he was disappointed as he knew he could have medalled, he said that it was a learning curve for him at third level
