Patrick Mullins says that having proven form over 3 miles on Heavy Ground in Navan is a major advantage for Acapella Bourgouis in which he is favorite to defy top weight in Sunday’s Troytown Chase in Navan.
Patrick who is son and assistant trainer to Willie says he has learned a lot about the horse from his former trainer Sandra Hughes.
“He came to us when Sandra Hughes retired last season and Sandra did a fabulous job with him.
“He won some very good races for her including the Ten Up over the course and distance last year in Navan.
“Now I think Roger Loughran deserved the plaudits that day. He got his fractions spot on, but the fact that the horse can handle the three miles around Navan on heavy ground is a massive plus going into the Race on Sunday.
“It appears to be, Sandra and Roger would be firmly of that opinion and we would listen to their opinion.
“He is a fantastic jumper. I have schooled him myself last week and he put a smile on your face and in those handicap chases, that’s a huge asset to have,” he said.
