Naomh Eoin rally late on to draw with St Mullins in Championship opener

Naomh Eoin came from four points down in the closing stages to draw with St. Mullins in the opening game of the J.J. Kavanagh & Sons Senior Hurling Championship.

St. Mullins led by 1-5 to 0-7 at half time, their goal coming from Chris Kavanagh, and it was Naomh Eoin’s Paraic Nolan who sent over the equalizer in time added on to level the sides for the fifth time.

Nolan was the top scorer for Naomh Eoin with ten points as Ross Smithers nailed three from play, while Philip Connors struck six for St. Mullins as it finished St. Mullins 1-12, Naomh Eoin 0-15.

Eire Og surrendered their under 21 Football Championship crown when they were beaten by Palatine yesterday evening.

Midway through the first half Palatine struck for two goals in the space of three minutes from Shane O’Neill and Conor Crowley as they led by 2-4 to 0-6 at half time. A Ross Dunphy goal for Eire Og narrowed the gap to two points but Palatine eventually won by 2-9 to 1-9.

Elsewhere Rathvilly defeated Mt. Leinster Rngs by 3-15 to 3-7 at the Training Centre while In the ‘B’ championship St Patricks defeated Kildavin-Clonegal by 2-14 to 0-17.

And in the Ladies Senior Football Championship Old Leighlin beat Champions Bennekerry Tinryland by 2-13 to 1-7.
