Niall Carew took charge of a Carlow side for the first time in competitive action at the weekend against Sligo.

Carlow were reduced to 14 men after a black card was produced but goals from Ross Dunphy and Conor Crowley was enough to help keep the Connaught side at bay.

The final score was 2-17 to 2-15, with Carlow’s final two points coming in the last minute of the game. Speaking after the game to KCLR new manager Carew spoke about how he is looking to implement a new playing style.

“We are playing a completely different system to what they are used to. Even if we lost the game, we would be disappointed but your still trying to get them to think about scoring more. you wont achieve anything by playing very defensive and it would not be my style. Even though it worked very well for Carlow throughout the years, we want to bring it on a notch.”
