Shane Flavin says that while fighting it’s most important to be patient and composed without the headguard.
Speaking to KCLR as he prepares for Friday nights Intermediate Final, Shane says has been paying particular attention to his defense since not wearing the headguard.
“You don’t really know what to expect when you are getting in with the older lads.
You mightn’t have heard of them before so you would be kind of happy enough that way but It would be physically stronger and you just have to be careful in there without the headguard.
One shot can change the whole fight. No matter who you talk to really, they all kind of say you are more weary without the headguard.
With the headguard, sometimes you might get into a bit of a brawl, just go hell for leather and you would nearly forget about your defence but you can’t really be doing that without the headguard, you would be taking away a huge risk just been composed and been patient”
