Boxing shall be returning to the ring after a lengthy spell on the ropes. The Irish Athletic Boxing Association have outlined the beginning of August as the date when boxing clubs can reopen under certain guidelines.
Boxing is Ireland’s most successful Olympic Sport with 16 medalists, 7 of which have been won in the last three Olympic Games. With the 2020 games being postponed for a year, many hopefuls will be delighted with the return of the sport.
Ollie O’Neill who runs Paulstown boxing club and is involved with the Kilkenny Carlow boxing board says everyone is indeed delighted but they must remain cautious. Speaking with KCLR he said
“We are all still weary, we all have to keep everyone safe, and we have a great reputation for doing that in the Boxing community. So we are delighted to be back but we are going to be cautious and try to follow the restrictions properly and thats the right way to do it.” He added ” We are love boxing, theres no question about it, and we want people back at it, but we want people to be safe.”
