Patrick Mullins hoping for a career best from Kemboy in Newbury on Saturday

Listen: Record breaking Jockey Patrick Mullins on KCLR Saturday Scoreline – 21st July 2018

Patrick Mullins says a career best will be required if Kemboy is to defy top weight and win the featured Ladbrokes Trophy in Newbury on Saturday.

Patrick is assistant trainer to his Dad Willie and speaking exclusively to KCLR, and he says that Kemboy has the right profile to progress further.

“He’s only 6 years-old. He’s rated 161 now so for him to win, he’s going to have to be a 165 plus horse which is a proper Grade 1 horse.

“Now he has yet to show that he is a proper Grade 1 horse, but he has won a Grade 2 in Clonmel the last day and he won a Grade 2 over three miles in Limerick so this is going to be a step-up.

“It’s going to have to be a career best, but like I said, he has got the right profile, he is 6 going 7, he is a second season novice, he is still improving, but it is going to be very difficult with top weight.

“I think Denman is the only horse to have done it in the last decade so it’s a big ask,” he said.
