All roads lead to Piltown this weekend for Kilkenny’s senior and intermediate camogie sides.
Originally set to take to UPMC Nowlan Park as part of a doubler-header, Kilkenny GAA’s staging of the Allianz Hurling League semi-final between Kilkenny and Cork has put the camogie on the move with both the Division 1A clash with Tipperary and Division 2B meeting with Cork now heading for the south of the county.
On a good run of league form and coming off a slender win over Wexford last weekend, Kilkenny’s intermediates play their fourth and final VERY Camogie League Division 2B game this Saturday against Cork knowing that a win will guarantee them a place in this year’s league final. Throw-in for that fixture is set for 1pm. Kilkenny have a bye weekend next weekend having played four straight games so while this will be their final group fixture, results elsewhere next weekend could impact their league final hopes should the fail to get past Cork.
That game will be followed by the fifth and final group game for Brian Dowling’s senior side as Kilkenny play host to Tipperary where, surprisingly, relegation isn’t mathematically out of the question with the All-Ireland champions having fallen to three defeats in their previous four games. While they will be hungry for a win, the game does provide another opportunity for minutes in legs and opportunities for fringe players to stake a claim for a place ahead of the start of the championship season.
We’ll have that game live on air here on KCLR from 3pm with thanks to Market Cross Shopping Centre. Tickets for the doubleheader will be available online from Universe.com and via Camogie.ie.
