Waterford FC striker Podge Amond has stressed the importance of leaving no stone unturned in the club’s quest for a European spot this season.
The Carlow native, who recently signed a new contract, is enjoying a strong campaign, having netted 12 goals in the league.
With Waterford in contention for a top-three finish in the Premier Division—and with a possible European qualification spot available for fourth place if one of the top three wins the Sports Direct FAI Cup—Amond emphasized the need for focus in the final stretch.
“Every game is huge now, but it’s about getting results and taking it one game at a time,” Amond said. “We have to live like monks, make sure we recover right, do everything in the right way to give ourselves the best chance. We’ve played 30 games now, and it would be a crying shame if we didn’t get something out of it. Whether it’s third or fourth, we have a hope of getting a European place.”
Waterford’s next challenge comes this Friday when they face St. Patrick’s Athletic at Richmond Park, a crucial game in the race for European qualification.
