Swedes didnt turn-up as Poland’s eagles soar

Poland Rescue their hopes of third place with a win against Sweden last night.

It was a shock to their supporters as they recently suffered defeats to Ireland and Spain, many thought Sweden would be too much for the side. However you cant deny the heart of an underdog. Szcezny set the tone by getting a foot to a shot that was destined to hit the back of the net. The Juventus keeper had no business stretching that far to deny Isak, but that is grit and determination. The resulting corner sparked a counter attach for the eagles , who soared down the pitch with the ball landing at the graceful feet of Milik. The striker managed to place the ball and Poland were up by a goal.

Word started filtering into the stadium that Ireland were were winning against Spain, which meant if things stayed as they were Poland would come third on goal difference thus qualifying over England into next round, as Denmark were also ruled out. Polish fans were biting their teeth in the stands hoping Sweden or Spain wouldn’t equalize. They seemed coasting in their own game, however Spain managed to snatch one back before half time, which may changed the halftime team talk in all four dressing rooms. If Spain won, they would top the group if things in Poland and Sweden stayed the same. That means Ireland or Sweden would be second or third. Lots were riding on this second half for the four teams.

Poland were not doubt told to focus on their game, but roars from the crowd just before half time seemed to indicate the Irish had taken the lead again, and then doubled that lead early into the second half. The polish fans roared a third time but this time, their side had doubled their own lead against the Swedes. This time Lewandowski getting in a position to score like any great No.9 does.

Those jubilation felt turned to nervousness as Sweden managed to grab one back minutes later with Isak’s shot proving to be to o powerful for Szcezny to get his foot on this time. After this the onslaught of offence began. Isak at the heart of his, rounding defenders, getting shots off, testing the keeper. Sweden were not resting on their laurels, even though they were virtually guaranteed to progress in second place, they wanted the win.

Just cause they wanted it, doesnt mean they could have it. Poland survived the rest of the game to provide them with an escape from the group straight into the next round.
