Another weekend of Premier League action brings another Who, What, When and Where. Some cracking encounters as Manchester United take on Chelsea, Leicester pit their wits against Arsenal and West Ham hoping to stop Man City’s winning streak. Get the rundown on all the fixtures for Matchday 25 below.
Saturday 27th February
12:30 Manchester City v West Ham United on BT 1
Kicking off the weekend is a Manchester City side that wont bloody lose. 18 games won on the trot is getting a bit ridiculous now, check out our article where we have highlighted how they are achieving this magnificent run of form. However if there was ever a person to stop City’s charge on the title , its the mighty Scot…..David Moyes. The man “Affectionately” known around Picadilly as Moysey has been doing well for himself lately, finding the hammers in top four contention. West Ham have a total of 22 points from a possible 27 in 2021, infact the only team with more points obtained in 2021 in the league is Man City with 33. It was a 1-1 draw when these two sides met in London last October, but this City side has a new vigor and will be mean when it comes to chances at their goalmouth.
15:00 West Bromwich Albion v Brighton and Hove Albion On Sky
When you write these articles, the sight of West Brom does not set the creative juices flowing. To be honest either does Brighton. The result has a dull draw written all over it. After getting themselves relatively safe for awhile, Brighton are only four points above the dropzone, so a win against the lowly West Brom will be very welcome. Same can be said for West Brom, if Big Sam wants to orchestrate another Premier League survival, he better activate his powers now. Go Go Gadget Baggies. 1 point if you guess what the outcome was last time these sides met.
17:30 Leeds United v Aston Villa On Sky
Now Leeds versus Aston Villa, here is an entertaining fixture I can get behind. These two sides swing more then my grandparents did. Leeds have 12 points secured in the nine games they played this year, while Aston Villa have 13. That single point separates both sides in the table, and two places in the league (Spurs is sandwiched between them in ninth). Leeds are coming off the back of a victory over Southampton while Villa lost to Leicester, but if you read what I said, these two sides like to swing, so momentum means nothing. Even the Patrick Bamford hatrick that secured Marco Bielsa the three points last time out against The Villians does not tell us much.
20:00 Newcastle United v Wolverhampton Wanderers On Sky
Newcastle go into this fixture having lost more premier League games than any other team in 2021. Wolves on the other hand have somewhat returned to form with winning two game sin a row. Out of the 11 times these two sides have met in the Premir League throughout its history, neither side has managed to keep a clean sheet. Although Newcastle have managed to get a player sent off in each of their last three home encounters with Wolves. Should be a feisty affair with Wolves keen to avenge their dropped points in the reverse fixtures draw game where Jacob Murphy managed to snatch a late point for The Magpies.
Sunday 28th February
12:00 Crystal Palace v Fulham on BBC One
Sundays festivities kicks off with Fulham travelling across London to face Crystal Palace. Fulham are undefeated in their last four games and have reduced the ten point gap between then and Newcastle to just three, Depending on the Wolves and Newcastle game, Fulham could finally find themselves outside of the relegation places. Palace were victorious last time out in their M23 derby game against rivals Brighton, but have been very inconsistent all season. Palace game away with a well deserved three points when the two London sides met last in a 2-1 victory at Craven Cottage.
12:00 Leicester City v Arsenal on BT 1
It will be the best of three as the Foxes take on The Gunnars for the third time this season. A share of the spoils for each team, as Leicester took all three points at The Emirates with a 1-0 win while Arsenal advanced in the League cup with a 2-0 win. Arsenal have returned to middling form with only four points from their last possible 15 and find themselves in 11th, while Leicester have been breathing down Manchester United’s neck in third with 10 points from a possible 15.
14:00 Tottenham Hotspur v Burnley On Sky
Is this a breaking point for Mouriniho? Could a loss here finally end his spell in charge? Spurs have been woeful in the league since December, and have only managed 12 points from their last possible 36. Burnley are in 15th place, however a win here will see them only three points behind the London side who occupy 9th. Infact Sean Dyche has been making Burnley hard to defeat as the Clarets are unbeaten in their last four games. Tottenham managed to win by a narrow margin last time they met, only a Heung Min Son goal separating the two sides, but much has changed since then.
16:30 Chelsea v Manchester United On Sky
The still undefeated under new management Chelsea go up against Manchester united, in a tie that once had all the bite of a ravenous pitbull. Now it’s like that pit-bull has got the snip, and has become a bit tired and weary in his days since. Both sides are battling it out for a top four position this season. Manchester United certainly are not comfortably second, with a run of games with include Chelsea, Man City and West ham, no team could count themselves as comfortable. Thomas Tuchel has managed to keep clean sheets in all his home games so far, and united struggled to break the deadlock last October against The Pensioners as that game ended 0-0.
19:15 Sheffield United v Liverpool On Sky
Liverpool can’t lose to bottom placed Sheffield United, surely. Surely? I do not know weather to phrase that as a question or a statement. On one hand its a Liverpool side with the likes of Mane, Firmino and Mane. On the other side it a Liverpool team that have lost four home games on the bounce. Something that was unfathomable at the turn of the year. Sheffield United will be relegated however, they are not this wholly woeful side, many of their loses where very tight affairs. However whatever way you phrase it, its only taken them 25 games to reach 20 losses, the quickest its ever taken any team to hit that number. Sheffield United took the lead early on in October, but managed to lose 2-1 in the End at Anfield.
Monday 1st March
20:00 Everton v Southampton on Sky
Southampton are in dire need of a victory, since their victory over Liverpool at the turn of the year, the side have not won a Premier League game. This inability to win more often then not resulted in a loss, with The Saints losing six in a row. Everton are still realistically in with a shout for Champions league, sitting five points behind that coveted fourth spot with a game in hand. They will be ecstatic with their first victory at Anfield since 1999 and can swagger into this game with alot more confidence then their opponents. Southampton can find comfort in the fact they defeated the Toffes last time out 2-0.
