Carlow Senior Footballers have had an encouraging run of form as of late including a 10 point win over Wicklow in Aughrim last weekend.

Sunday sees them up against Wexford at 1pm in Netwatch Cullen Park in the last group game.

Wexford are also Carlow’s opposition in the first round of the Championship so it will be interesting to see how both sides approach this game.

Wexford didn’t put out their strongest line up last time out against Westmeath having already qualified for the League Final.

Carlow for their part are supposedly going to field the strongest line up available to them and the approach is to lay down a marker ahead of the championship meeting in May.

The only thing one would hope is that Carlow’s hand isn’t shown.

It’s understood that Brendan Murphy won’t play a part on Sunday and in his absence Carlow generally rally a bit more to try and fill that void but obviously you would want him in your side.

Carlow Senior Football manager Turlough O’Brien says a victory over Wexford on Sunday would indicate real progress.

“If you look back over the whole campaign, I mean we had one poor half hour against London and one poor half hour against Leitrim and we are paying a heavy price for that because we are not going to be promoted.

“But there is no doubt about it we have been the third best team so far in the League and we have taken a point off Westmeath who are promoted and play Wexford on Sunday and who knows if we take two points off them that would be real kind of progress” he said.

It’s hard to know what way this game will go with little at stake but the home side’s momentum might see them through.
