Training is underway for a new soccer tournament organised by Kilkenny Gardaí with support from the FAI and a range of local groupings and businesses.
Project Ains Nyuk aims to identify leaders in the city’s Traveller community with training and games rolling out on the Freebooters grounds.
As part of this initiative, two soccer teams were spawned, one from St. Mary’s and the other from St. Catherine’s.
The five-a-side team from Hebron were out on Tuesday night and FAI Development Officer, William Kinsella, outlines where things will go from here:
“Next week we’re going to have training with the guys from the wetlands, they’re going to come down, and then the following week after that we’re going to get into a game situation where Freebooters are going to have a couple of teams from their U16 division who are able to come down and play the two teams from the sites and we’re just going to play off in the cup and shield competition as well so it should be really good,” said William.
