Rathvilly showcased remarkable resilience to secure their place in the Michael Lyng Motors Hyundai Carlow Senior Football Championship final, despite being reduced to 14 men early in their semi-final clash with Old Leighlin.

Rathvilly’s tenacity shone through as they edged out a narrow victory, overcoming Old Leighlin by 3-5 to 1-9 in a thrilling encounter.

The win sets up a showdown with Palatine, who knocked out defending champions Éire Óg in a dramatic semi-final on Saturday. Palatine’s 3-10 to 2-12 victory ensured their place in the decider, with both teams now eyeing county glory.

Intermediate Semi-Final Drama

In the Talbot Hotel Intermediate Football Championship, Kildavin/Clonegal clinched a hard-fought victory over St. Patrick’s of Tullow. The game was a nail-biter until the final whistle, with Kildavin/Clonegal securing a 1-13 to 1-12 win. They now advance to face Fenagh in the intermediate final, promising another exciting contest.

Leighlinbridge Prevails in Junior A Championship Semi-Final

In the Junior A Championship semi-final, Leighlinbridge edged out Fighting Cocks in a low-scoring, hard-fought battle. Leighlinbridge’s eight points were enough to see off Fighting Cocks, who could only muster six points. This victory sends Leighlinbridge through to the final, where they will meet Ballon in what promises to be an intense decider.

As the Carlow football season reaches its climax, the stage is set for thrilling county final showdowns at all levels, with clubs across the county eager to etch their names into local history.
