The June bank holiday weekend turned out to be a rather fruitful one for St. Laurence O’Toole’s Adam Nolan.
With the 123.ie All-Ireland Schools Track & Field finals taking place in Tullamore over the weekend, the Scoil Chonglais (Baltinglass) student wound up smashing the Irish record he set only last weekend in Carlow for the 110m hurdles (13.89) by posting a 13.70, in the process making it a senior schools record, the Irish U20 record and achieving the A standard for the European U20 Championships taking place in Jerusalem later this summer.
Nolan would have been heavily favoured going into Saturday afternoon’s event (which you can watch above) but the competition was strong in the U20 final. However, not content with simply breaking records all around him, Nolan went on to claim gold in the Long Jump event with a best of 6.74m.
Among other winners on the day were Loreto Kilkenny’s Hannah Kehoe, who claimed a senior 1500m title in a time of 4:34.16 while CBS Kilkenny’s Billy Coogan claimed silver in the Senior Boys 5000m with a time of 14:58.67.
St. Kieran’s College’s Kyrel Mtinsi was third in the Minor Boys 800 event in a time of 2:06.84. Alex Cullen (CBS Kilkenny) claimed second in the Inter Boys Long Jump with a best of 6.58m.
