GAA
It was a super weekend of action in the St Canice’s Credit Union Kilkenny Senior Hurling, with places on the line for clubs to tray and avoid relegation we brought you all the action from across the county. Last year’s champions are in the relegation semi final after they drew with James Stephens on Saturday in what was the game of the weekend. Coming from eight points down the Shamrocks went on a goal scoring spree in the last few minutes to come back and draw . They will now face off against Danesfort while Mullinavat will face off against Erin’s Own in the other one.
Glenmore have reached this year’s league final and will go up against Dicksboro while its a city derby in the shield final as James Stephens will play O Loughlin Gaels

Thomastown and Lisdowney will renew rivalries again in this years Michael Lyng Motors Hyundai Intermediate league final as both teams kept a 100% record in the group stages. The teams met previously in the 2020 county decider when Lisdowney won 4-3 on penalties, it’s a game you wont want to miss out on. Dunnamaggin will play St Martins in the shield final.
At the opposite end of the table there is four clubs who could possibly be facing relegation as Carrickshock will play Fenians and Conahy Shamrocks will play O Loughlin Gaels. One of those four teams will drop to the junior grade in 2024.

In Carlow the quarter final pairings are know for this year’s Michael Lyng Motors Senior Football championship. Last year’s champions Palatine will relinquish their title and have a huge battle as they will play Fenagh in the relegation final after going down 1-11 to 0-6 in last nights defeat to Éire Óg.
Cycling
The concluding stage of the Rás Na mBan took place yesterday with the final stage finishing at Kilkenny Castle. Kilkenny native Mia Griffin had won two stages in this years event but a major fall yesterday saw her hopes of a podium finish disappear.
The overall winner of the event was Manon de Boer from team NWVG-uplus, the Dutch cyclist fought off a flurry of late attacks in the final stage to take the 2023 Rás na mBan magenta jersey & overall classification.
Golf
Shane Lowry was among the movers on the final day of the Horizon Irish Open at the K-club yesterday while Rory McIlroy faltered. Lowry hot a final round of 68 to finish tied third, McIlory on the other hand finished with a final round of 76 to finish tied 16th. Contrasting fortunes for the Irish duo as they prepare to take part in the Ryder Cup at the end of the month. The event at the Kildare venue was won by Sweedish golfer Vincent Norrman, he hit a final round of 65 to finish one shot clear of Germany’s Hurly Long
Tennis
Novak Djokovic claimed his fourth title in New York last night after beating Daniil Medvedev in the US Open men’s final to match Margaret Court’s all-time record haul of 24 Grand Slam titles. The Serbian won in straight sets 6-3 7-6 6-3, the 36 year old also becomes the World number one after the victory, it’s also his third Grand Slam of the year.
Rugby World Cup
Ireland got off to the perfect start at this year’s Rugby World Cup in France as they put ten tries past the Romanians in an 82-08 victory. Team captain Johnny Sexton scored two tries of his own on his first start back from suspension. It was the perfect start for Andy Farrell as he now turns his focus to Tonga on Saturday.
Elsewhere reigning champions South Africa defeated Scotland 18-3. England also won their opening game against Argentina despite been down to 14 men after only three minutes. Tom Curry was first sin binned for a head-on-head collision but it was also referred to the bunker which was later upgraded to a red card by the citing officer. Wales had to endure a nervy few moments in their opening game as Fiji came back in the second half to almost snatch victory away from the Welsh.
Soccer
The Irish Soccer team fell to another defeat to the Netherlands last night to heap more pressure on manager Stephen Kenny as the Dutch beat the home side 2-1. Ireland took the lead after just three minutes when Adam Idah converted a penalty.
The lead didn’t last too long as the Dutch were on level terms fifteen minutes later with a penalty of their own. Wout Weghorst was the Dutch hero as he headed home to give the Dutch two points and sit second in group B while Ireland are fourth six points now behind Greece. Mathematically its possible for Ireland to still qualify but that would also require other results going their way. There is much pressure on Stephen Kenny and there is much speculation on whether he will remain on as the Irish manager
