Football

There were two games in Carlow last night as the Junior C championship quarter-finals went ahead.

Palatine’s ended up on the losing side to Naomh Eoin that finished1-12 to 1-18, while Mount Leinster Rangers 2-07 to 6 point winners over Grange.

In Division 1B of the Carlow Cental Under 17 Playoffs, Tinryland/ overcame Kildavin Clonegal.

Eire Og are looking forward to a first Leinster championship campaign following their county title victory on Sunday.

The five-time champions will be hoping to begin their provincial run with a victory when they take on the Laois champions later this month.

Hurling

Cork’s Alan Cadogan has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling.

Cadogan made his senior debut with the Rebels back in 2014 and walks away with two Munster titles.

In a statement, the Douglas clubman thanked the Cork management, the county board and his family for their ‘belief and support.’

Soccer

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insists his side must do better to improve their current run of form.

They lost to Galatasaray in the Champions League last night by three goals to two at Old Trafford.

The result leaves United bottom of Group A, while they’re currently tenth in the Premier League table.

There was also disappointment for Arsenal last night.

Mikel Arteta’s side slumped to a 2-1 defeat away to Lens in Group B.

Tonight, holders Manchester City are away to RB Leipzig from 8pm in Group G.

At the same time in Group F, Newcastle will look to build on their opening draw with AC Milan when they welcome PSG to St. James’ Park.

And Champions League football makes its return to Parkhead when Celtic face Lazio in Group E.

Burnley got their first Premier League win this season last night.

Lyle Foster and Jacob Bruun Larsen scored the goals for Vincent Kompany’s side in a 2-1 win over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.
