Young Tipperary trainer Mark O’Donovan landed another major final in Kilkenny Greyhound Track on Friday night.
The young handler has already landed the Select Stakes and the Juvenile Derby since he took out his license, and he can now add the Champion Open Unraced to his tally after Serene Ace ran out a brilliant winner of the famous event at Kilkenny.
Eddie Ryan’s young son of Scolari Me Daddy and Boley Ace had suffered his first defeat seven days earlier, but he quickly put that defeat behind him.
By halfway it was clear that there was no stopping Serene Ace. Now over five lengths clear, the September ’19 whelp continued to pile on the pressure.
Grangeview Mac began to close the gap as they hit the third turn, but it was futile.
Serene Ace remained in control, and he stayed on to land the €10,000 prize by four lengths from Grangeview Mac in a fast 28.98.
Droopys Yes was a length and a half further adrift in third.
