The Carlow side had an impressive start and lead by 5 points at one stage in the second half. However, a late-game twist saw TUS Midlands’ Jack Torpey securing a crucial goal, ultimately turning the tide in favor of the Midlanders.
Speaking to KCLR, Carlow footballer Colm Hulton shed light on the pivotal moments that led to the narrow defeat, saying “I thought when we kicked on in the second half, the first 20 minutes I thought we were in the driving seat, I think we were five points up
something like that.”
“There was no movement on the kick outs it’s probably not John Ball’s fault in the goal we kind of have to look at that for next week. it’s disappointing all right to let that lead slip away .”
“I think they were more hungrier for the breaks being honest, Oisin (McGraynor) in the middle trying to pick him out nearly every kick out and they’re copped on to it and got more bodies around it so it was easier for them to pick up the breaks but it’s a tough one to take. I know you can blame the kick out situation and all but look it’s probably more than kickouts it was the movement and all.”
Hulton’s insights will be crucial for the team as they analyze the game, identify areas for improvement, and regroup for the upcoming challenges in the Sigerson Cup.
The close margin of the result indicates the competitiveness of both teams and sets the stage for an exciting Sigerson Cup campaign. As the Carlow side reflects on their performance, fans eagerly anticipate their next encounter, hoping for a comeback that will showcase the resilience and spirit of SETU Carlow in the Sigerson Cup journey ahead.
