Excitement is building around Muckalee this week with the club heading for a Leinster Ladies junior football championship this weekend
Having exited at the quarter-final stages last year, they’ve been on a good run of form of late to set up a provincial decider against O’Dwyer’s of Dublin with the game heading to Baltinglass GAA grounds at 1pm on Saturday.
Speaking to KCLR, Muckalee’s Ellen Lawlor says the support for the ladies’ team has been growing with every game.
“I just feel that every time we go out there’s more support”, says Lawlor.
“There are more people getting excited for us and getting behind us. The county final this year was packed, the sideline was full of Muckalee people and the young people. That’s the main thing, the young girls coming to watch us play.”
“They look up to us. It’s unreal watching them see us win and push behind us, it’s just great to see it in the club.”
As for the atmosphere within the club and for the players, well, by all accounts, spirits couldn’t be higher.
“It actually feels like Christmas, it’s so exciting”, Lawlor chips in. “For any sports person, this is where you want to be. You train all year, you train so hard and some people never get to experience it. If you weren’t excited in some way, there’d be something wrong with you. The excitement in the club is outrageous at the moment.”
Dublin champions O’Dwyer’s provide the opposition with Baltinglass GAA grounds providing the backdrop for Saturday’s showdown. Adult tickets are priced €10, concessions are €6 and U16s go free. Check this week’s ticket information to find out how to get yours.
