Kilkenny will face Westmeath on home turf this weekend with TEG Cusack Park in Mullingar confirmed as the venue of choice for their All-Ireland senior championship clash.
The Cats are clocking up the miles in the good weather having seen off Clare in Sixmilebridge last weekend.
Kilkenny started brightly, Katie Nolan pointing inside a minute to set the tone for the Cats 0-22 to 0-16 victory.
“We have a lot of work to do but the win today really sets a great foundation for us. If we had lost today, it would have put us in a bad place but we’re in a good position now and we got to Westmeath on the back of a good win,” said Kilkenny manager Brian Dowling in the aftermath of the game.
The O’Loughlin Gaels man is hoping that the victory earned in fierce heat in Clare at the weekend will stand to them heading to Mullingar this weekend as the team came through heavy condition as well as having to deal with Covid-related restrictions on the side.
