The Chairperson of Leinster Camogie has been telling Camán Caint about the success of their coaching academy.
The criteria for the course meant that applicants had to have at least a foundation-level coaching certificate with a level one cert being more preferable.
The goal of the academy was to promote more female coaches at the intercounty level from under 14 development squads to adult grades.
“Out of the 16 who completed the course, 10 of them were females”.
They had a widespread range of coaches and coaching abilities which made for a dynamic learning environment.
“The scope of it was to broaden the knowledge for coaches to hopefully bring them into intercounty in the near future”
“We’re hoping that this will be a yearly academy”.
The course incorporated many different aspects of coaching from nutrition and statistics to performance analysis and defensive and offensive coaching.
“The feedback has been very very positive so I see no reason why it wouldn’t continue into the future”.
