Irish sporting bodies have welcomed news of the multi – million euro increase in spending as part of Budget 2021.
36-million extra will be made available to Sport Ireland. With the purpose being to increase participation numbers and offer support to sporting bodies hit hard by COVID-19.
A further 7-million euro has been earmarked for “large scale sports infrastructure”, and 2-million for major sporting events.
The Olympic Federation of Ireland and the FAI have been among those sounding notes of appreciation.
Interim FAI CEO Gary Owens said: “We appreciate the announcement by Minister McGrath today and welcome this additional funding to Sport Ireland. Irish sport needs this support from Government now more than ever and this is a major boost for everyone in a sector which offers so much to Irish life.”
