Rathvilly’s All-Ireland dream was over at the first port of call in the Leinster club senior football championship last weekend.
The Carlow champions made the trip to Haggardstown where hosts Naomh Mairtin ran out comfortable winners, 2-16 to 1-05.
Manager Pat Ryan praised his players for a great journey through the Carlow championship but made no excuses for Sunday’s performance.
“It was a new experience for the boys, but our key objective was to win the (county) championship and we did that. All the players enjoyed playing in it and enjoyed the celebrations after winning it and rightly so. The week turnaround was short and it takes some time to recover after some extensive celebrations.”
“We have a lot of young lads and today you could just set the physical abilities of Naomh Mairtin. We did not play to the best of our ability and we were beaten by the better team.”
“Huge congrats to Naomh Mairtin, they are a formidable side and they will have a huge say in the Championship.”
