The worst way to lose- that is how former IT Carlow player Aidan Fogarty described his alma matters defeat to UL in last night’s Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon Cup Semi-Final.
Two late points from Wexford’s Rory Higgins appeared to have put the hosts into Saturday’s Final against NUI Galway however, Waterford’s Mikey Kiely scored a wonder goal from a free just inside the 45 metre line in injury time of extra time.
1-27 to 2-23 was the final score at the IT Carlow GAA grounds.
Fogarty who was on analysis for the live stream says it’s a hard blow for IT Carlow to take.
“A fantastic game of hurling in such bad conditions, it turned into a real mud bath. Battle-hardened, typical Fitzgibbon Cup hurling.”
“It is absolutely heartbreaking to lose a game like that, even to lose a practice match like that, its just gut-wrenching. To know you had the game in the bag, the last puc of the game, and then lose it. it is the worst way to lose a match, but on the flip side it is the best way to win a match.”
