There are 8 races on the flat at Gowran Park today from 1.55.

Racing gets underway with a 2-year-old maiden and a lot of interesting runners in the race. The two standout horses in this field will be Subzero, trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Wayne Lordan. Of course, Mister Mister trained by his son Joseph O’Brien and ridden by Dillon McMonigal, two horses will be vying for favouritism in the race. “Mr Mr” having the advantage will probably go off the favourite, but Sub-zero could give him a lot to think about in a very interesting 2-year-old race to get the card underway.

The 2.25 is a 3-year-old race, again very exciting.

Aidan O’Brien has the favourite in this, So Beautiful. Local trainers represented in it, Inablink for Barry Fitzgerald, he won’t be without his chances either. Barry has been very lucky at Gowran this year. The 2.55, again is a really decent race. A horse owned locally called Helpmeout, trained by William Mccrary, will enjoy the quick ground and definitely has his chance.

Closing off the card today, is the 5.30 race, a one-mile-six race. Willie Mullins, of course, is our local champion trainer.

He has a horse that wanted bumper in Kilbeggan earlier in the year, Hermine which will be ridden by Colin Keane. He definitely has a good chance in this. Then there’s another horse trained by Jesse Harrington, Pahlavi, so that will have a great chance as well, ridden by Shane Foley and that will close the card today.

As usual, our courtesy buses will be leaving from the castle gates one hour before racing, so that’ll be at 12.55 and we look forward to seeing everybody out here for what is the last of our summer fixtures.

You know the summer season finishes up now but we’ve had some really good flat race and we have a couple of fixtures left to go before the flat season finishes, of course.

The Denny Cordell race meeting on Saturday, September 17th is the next on the card in two weeks and we’re all looking forward to that, but we’re looking forward to seeing some people out here later on today.

Weather is looking beautiful, the ground, it’s officially good, good to firm places.
