One moment we’ve all been waiting for.

The dust has barely settled on the Kilkenny hurling championship calendar – and indeed, the U21s only get to play their finals this weekend – but the draw has been made for the 2018 St. Canice’s Credit Union Senior Hurling League, and it’s thrown up a few crackers.

St. Patrick’s Ballyragget will have senior champions Dicksboro and beaten finalists James Stephens to contend with in 2018 as the draw was revealed at Kilkenny GAA’s annual convention on Thursday night.

In fact, Dicksboro and James Stephens will open the calendar in true championship style as a repeat of the 2017 county final with the Village no doubt out for revenge on the opening day of the league.

O’Loughlin Gaels will also provide the first test for a Ballyhale Shamrocks side under the watchful eye of Henry Shefflin and his back room team.

Here’s how the groupings look for 2018.

Kilkenny Senior Hurling League: Group A

  • Ballyhale Shamrocks
  • Bennettsbridge
  • Danesfort
  • Erins Own
  • O’Loughlin Gaels
  • Rower Inistioge

Kilkenny Senior Hurling League: Group B

  • Carrickshock
  • Clara
  • Dicksboro
  • James Stephens
  • Mullinavat
  • St. Patrick’s Ballyragget

We’ll have more on the intermediate and junior draws and convention selection across the day on Friday.
