It was a mixed bag in the league, with Brian Dowling’s side only recording two victories against Dublin and Tipperary while losing the other three. The final will now be contested by Cork and Galway.

Kilkenny will get the defence of their senior title underway in a group involving Dublin, Tipperary and Wexford. James Stephens’ Michelle Teehan has been telling KCLR that some of Kilkenny’s poor results in the league may just be the spark they need heading into bigger games.

“We went out to win every game. We tried our best in every game. Everyone’s intentions were always pure, we wanted to win. How it worked out on the days, it did not go for us, but we are hoping it gives us a kick up the butt. “

“Coming out of an All Ireland win, this is what we needed to ground us.”
