Carlow are out of the Leinster Senior Football Championship after a disappointing defeat to Longford in Tullamore on Sunday.
Darragh Foley grabbed a late goal for Carlow to leave four points between the sides but Paddy Fox and Dylan Farrell moved Longford six ahead to leave the score 0-25 – 2-13 at the end.
Speaking to scoreline after the game, Carlow manager Niall Carew says their wide count hurt them a lot.
“It was disappointing for us because generally, our boys are very economical up front and I suppose them seven wides came back to haunt us,” said Niall.
“In fairness to the lads in the second half, they hung in and hung in and we got it right back to four points”.
“Darragh Foley was unlucky with a free and they came right back up and got a score and then Darragh got a super goal to get back again but with the couple of balls cleared off the line that we could have just snook it at the end but I think Longford were probably deserving winners at the end” he added.
