The World Masters Championships are taking place in Torun, Poland this week and Monday (day 2) brought about more success for local athletes.
Following on from Kilkenny City Harriers’ Eoin Everard’s gold medal success in the M35 3000m on Sunday, Tinryland AC’s Tommy Payne has collected silver for his performance in the 8000m cross-country event.
Not only that, but Tommy having put recent injury concerns behind him, ran to a second-place finish (31:58) behind Jukka Kauppila (31:38) with just 20 seconds between the pair, crossing the line almost a minute clear of Ukranian Viktor Nedybaliuk. With Clare’s Eugene Moynihan finishing in fourth (33:15) and William Tyrrell in 14th, the trio’s combined times were enough to also earn Ireland team gold on Monday afternoon.
