A day on from the spectacular finish to the Punchestown Gold Cup, the festival served up another thriller as Unowhatimeanharry gained revenge on Cheltenham hero Nichols Canyon following a memorable duel in the Grade 1 Ladbrokes Stayers’ Hurdle.
The Harry Fry-trained Unowhatimeanharry was beaten by Nichols Canyon at Cheltenham by over four lengths but turned the tables in dramatic fashion today under Noel Fehily, winning by just a head.
The JP McManus-owned winner was a 4-1 shot.
Willie Mullins kept alive the prospects of retaining his champion trainer’s title when Ashthuria led home Pravalaguna and Good Thyne Tara to give the stable a 1-2-3 in the Alanna Homes Mares Novice Hurdle.
Ashthuria was providing Ruby Walsh with his first winner of the week and was winning in the colours made famous by Hurricane Fly.
Owned by the Creigton family, Ahthuria won well and was returned a 13-8 favourite.
Paddy power responded to the good day’s racing from Willie Mullins to cut his odds to just 11-10 to hang on to his crown while Elliott was pushed out to 4-6.
