“Let their be light”, and that certainly was the case of Friday evening the 2nd of September.
Netwatch Cullen Park, Carlow’s county grounds is celebrating its 80th birthday and to mark the occasion, the recently installed floodlights were switched on in front of crowds of supporters.
The evening began with a parade of young teams from Carlow Town Park up to Netwatch Cullen Park before the Carlow Colts lined out for games in both hurling and football.
GAA President Aogan O Fearghail was there to do the honours along with Michael Meaney who is a former Carlow Gaa Chairman and the man who dreamt up the idea of bathing the county grounds in floodlights.
It means Carlow Inter county and Club games can now be scheduled later in the evening giving spectators every chance to watch their teams in action.
