While the Black Keys sang about Gold On The Ceiling, local man David McClure showed earlier this month there was very much gold on the water.
McClure took top spot in the freestyle kayaking event at this year’s European Championships, held on the slalom course just outside of Paris – the same course that’s set to be used for the Olympic Games in 2024.
Ranked fifth in the world off the back of the result, the Kilkenny native also edged out current world champion Joaquim Fontane I Maso in the process.
Will see be seeing another local athlete don the green of Team Ireland for the Olympics in three years time? Based on his performances in Paris, we wouldn’t be surprised.
