Colm Whelan is back in League of Ireland action and already back among the goalscorers.
Having suffered a season-ending injury last year, then moving from UCD to Derry City, it took until last night for Kilkenny native and former Thomastown United youths player Colm Whelan to make his debut. Out of action for the bones of a year and a goal on your return? Yes please.
With the Candytripes already 2-0 up, Whelan was introduced as a substitute on the 74th minute, taking just four more minutes to find the back of the net and score his first goal for Derry in his first competitive appearance for the club.
Hats off to Derry on the new black and amber away jersey from O’Neills too. Watch the full match highlights below.
