It’s been a long time coming but our local rugby clubs are finally back in action.
The Leinster League resumes this weekend with Carlow, Kilkenny, and Tullow involved.
On Saturday, Kilkenny’s J1 and J2 teams head for Gorey.
Then on Sunday Carlow are at home to Cill Dara and Tullow welcomes Mullingar to the Black Gates, all with 3 o clock starts.
The Tullow Ladies are also in action against Old Belvedere in the Paul Flood Cup semi-final.
Speaking on the Knock On rugby podcast, Johnny Tobin from Tullow says there’s been no pre-season tournament this year and they’re still short on players with the GAA season still going.
“The break might be a blessing in disguise, I know I was giving out after the Colm O’Shea Cup and then the South East (Cup), but the harsh reality of it is, for us anyway, we just don’t have players to play games at the minute,” said Johnny.
“Another week or two we will have more players, we have 17 or 18 guys coming back to training last week, we need 17 or 18 guys and the rest for the next two weeks you know”.
