This Saturday, Glenmore will face James Stephens in a high-stakes match at 2 PM in Hugginstown as part of the St Canice’s Credit Union Kilkenny Senior Hurling League.
With both teams battling at the lower end of the table, the outcome holds significant implications for Glenmore’s season. A win would secure their place outside the relegation spots, while James Stephens find themselves in the unfortunate position of facing relegation regardless of the result.
Glenmore’s manager, Maurice Aylward, spoke to KCLR’s Adrian Ronan following their narrow one-point victory over Thomastown last weekend. Aylward expressed optimism about his team’s form, noting that they have been steadily improving after a challenging start to the season.
“We had a very bad start, but there were reasons for us,” Aylward explained. “We had a lot of long-term injuries. We had a player off in America. We were short five or six players for the first couple of matches. We have the full panel in the last two games to pick from. The training is top-class. And you can see yourself both last Sunday and last weekend. There’s been a huge improvement in the team. And hopefully we’ll continue that improvement.”
This Saturday’s game is crucial for Glenmore, and Aylward is keenly aware of its importance. “That’s going to take on huge significance now,” he said. “Hopefully we can keep the momentum going and just get up to number three or four or whatever the case may be. But whatever it is, we’ll take it and we’ll keep going anyway.”
The game promises to be a thrilling encounter as Glenmore looks to secure their league status and build on their recent progress, while James Stephens will be playing for pride as they aim to end their campaign on a positive note.
