From Poster

Kilkenny launches a Martial arts festival event honoring the knight errant William the Marshal the first Earl of Pembroke on Sunday the 19th of February 2023.

Grand Master Guy Jones pioneered this idea of honoring the builder of many Towns in the Southeast of Ireland by evoking the saga of this invincible knight who made his fame and wealth by winning over 500 jousting and melee tournaments in England and France.

His gallantry and valiant achievements won him the reputation of the strongest Knight that ever lived. By marrying the daughter of Strongbow Isabelle de Clare he became of great influence both here in Ireland and in England. His name is associated with the famous Magna Carta. In Kilkenny, he built the castle the pride of the City. For his bravery and gracious victories, the Irish chapter of Song Moo Kwan launched a championship in his name firstly online in 2020.

It became an annual event ever since. This year more than Seven International teams are competing for the title of the overall winners of William the Marshal Cup held in O’Loughlin Gaels on Sunday the 19th of February 2023. Participants from France, UK, Italy, Morocco, and India will be visiting the city to take part in this prestigious event. Referees, Coaches, visiting Grand Masters of Martial Arts along with the very young and quite old students will take part in representing their respective Countries.

The opening ceremony will be attended by local and foreign dignitaries.
