Kilkenny and Carlow recorded their first wins of the Leinster League campaign for 2015/16 this weekend as Tullow slipped to a second consecutive loss.
Still only two weeks into the campaign, Tullow remain with work to do to better pre-season and season-starting efforts in Division 1B. Having gone down 34-20 on the opening day of the season, Tullow came away with a losing bonus point at Ashbrook on Sunday. Coolmine provided the opposition and they move to 2-0, holding off Tullow with a 24-18 win.
In division 2A after a tricky preseason and an opening day loss to Portarlington, Carlow turned it around at Oak Park and held on to win by a single point on a 13-12 scoreline over Portlaoise on Sunday.
On Saturday, Kilkenny turned around a penalty-laden first half to go 30 points clear of Suttonians in the second half at Foulkstown, running out 53-23 winners. You can see photos from that game here.
There’s one more round of games to come before the mid term league break.
Kilkenny are away on Saturday to Enniscorthy. Having lost their South East League encounter a few weeks ago, and having lost this year’s Towns Cup final to the Wexford men, this will be a tough test for Kilkenny. While the second half against Suttonians was a vast improvement, there’s still a few faces to come into the fold for Kilkenny which would be of help against Enniscorthy.
In Divison 1B, Tullow will be in action at Black Gates as they welcome division new boys Cill Dara – both sides having lost both of their opening games. Carlow will face New Ross, having lost to the Wexford side in the South East League this season. New Ross, on home soil, will be hungry for their first win of the season having lost away to Portlaoise on opening day and missing out to Newbridge this weekend by 3 points.
