Gabriel Clemens will have a quarter-final tie at the World Darts Championship to look forward to in 2023 after he defeated Alan Soutar 4-1 on Friday afternoon.
Clemens won the first leg and took out 114 to move 2-0 ahead in the first set which he wrapped up by holding his throw to take an early lead.
Soutar missed three darts at D8 in the opening leg of the next set but that didn’t stop him from finding his form as he reeled off three consecutive legs to make it 1-1 at the break.
That would be as good as it would get for the unseeded Scot however, with the German finding the perfect response as he whitewashed his opponent in the third set to move 2-1 ahead.
Both players held their throws in the next set to leave the scoreline reading 2-2 in legs, but Soutar crucially could not continue the trend of winning the leg with the darts as the talented Clemens broke in the deciding leg to move to within a set of victory.
The 25th seed missed two match darts at D18 to allow Soutar some respite in the fifth set but Soutar could not take advantage of his own set-dart as Clemens came back to hit D20 and advance to the last-eight.
