3 young boxers from MCBC head to Dublin this Saturday for the National schoolboy finals.

The schoolboys will contest the finals in the home of boxing in the National Stadium.

Cian Stapleton, Josh Dowling and Oliver McGrath will represent the esteemed Kilkenny boxing club on Saturday afternoon.

Stapleton contests the Boys 52kg All Ireland final against the reigning Ulster champion. Cian had a fantastic win in his national semi-final last week beating the current Connacht champion.

Josh Dowling will compete in the 68kg final against the last year’s national champion. Dowling battled his way through a tough Ulster champion in the semi-final to earn his spot to fight for gold.

Oliver McGrath is the club’s last man to contest his All Ireland Final against the reigning national champion from Connacht.
All 3 Kilkenny boys are extremely hard working and dedicated.

They continued to do their own individual training throughout the pandemic.

From March 2020 they have grinded it out in the ring when many of their peers threw in the towel.

Not only are they in peek physical condition, they also built up incredible mental resilience when their boxing progression was put on hold during the lockdown.

The lads have overcome every obstacle put in front of them winning several fights from county level, provincial level, right up to national level to earn their place on the biggest day of Schoolboy boxing in Ireland.

A competition that started with over 500 provincial Champions culminates this Saturday.
