Kilkenny and District League honorary secretary Tom Mullins has defended the league’s decision to force teams to forfeit games if they have a case of Covid-19 in their squad.
Last week, the Kilkenny & District League management committee decided that any team who has a positive Covid-19 or has to isolate due to close contacts will have their fixtures called off and the result will be awarded to their opponent.
Speaking to Scoreline, Mullins said teams would use the case to request a weekend off which would not be in the best interests of the league.
“If a club does apply for a weekend off because of covid or close contacts, they will be granted that weekend alright, they will be granted that game off, but they will forfeit the fixtures,” said Tom.
“The reason behind this is that we were afraid that clubs were going to use this just to get games off nilly willy (sic) which I do believe is happening around the country,” he added.
