Former Evergreen player Gavan Holohan has made FA Cup team of the season after getting to the quarter-finals with Grimsby.
His 7 appearances resulted in 3 goals in the competition including 2 penalties to knock out Premier League side Southampton.
It has been overall a fantastic season for the Kilkenny-born native, who first made the trip across the pond when he signed with Hull City in 2009. In 2013 Holhan came back to the Emerald Isle to compete in the League of Ireland with Drogheda United, Cork City, Galway United, and Waterford. His performances earned him a contract at Hartlepool where he quickly became a crowd favorite. Then rather shockingly, Gavan left Hartlepool after playing an integral part in getting them back into the football league. Citing injury and personal reasons on Twitter, Holohan left with an impressive record of 23 goals in 108 appearances. This is where his Grimbsy journey started.

After helping Grimbsy to promotion from the National League (His second in a row after he helped Hartlepool the previous season), Gavan was crucial in maintaining their status this year. The Mariners finished their season with a very respectable 11th-place finish.
All in all the midfielder managed 6 goals in 39 appearances, however, his most memorable turn would come in the form of the FA Cup. Gavan scored twice against Premier League opposition to reach the quarter-final of the historic competition before being knocked out by Brighton. In total, his 7 appearances and three goals in the cup have earned him a place on the FA Cup team of the season alongside the likes of Manchester United’s Casemiro and Man City’s Riyad Mahrez.
Come a long way from catching splinters on bench away to Bray Wanderers 😅😎🙌 #ILOVETHISGAME https://t.co/zJlpw3heGR

Holohan was also awarded goal of the season by the club, for which he was nominated twice, and it was actually against his old side Hartepool. His former club ended the season in 23rd and was relegated back into the National League.
I’ll be joined on air by Gavan this Sunday on KCLR Scoreline from 4 pm.
