The new Carlow and District League is upon us and one of the clubs other clubs will be trying to stop is Crettyard United.

They’re the reigning champions this year and have been closely followed by Hanover Harps in the past few seasons.

FACTFILE

Crettyard United, Club was formed in 1991 with a population of approx 900.

They’re the most successful club in the League catering for Junior men’s, Women’s and also have a juvenile structure in place and this year have their first ever Seniors team competing in the Over 35s league.

Their first time to lift the Premier division was in 1999 since then, they have gone on to win 10 more Premier titles making a total of eleven victories in their 25 years in the Carlow League.

The club is currently developing two new sand based pitches and the also putting in the ground works for Lights total spending for pitches only is expected to be in the region of €170,000.

Manager Damian Lock is looking for a four in a row. Players to take note of Lee Salter last season’s top goal scorer, Jimmy Dunne, Craig Comeford and Criostoir Maher. Mikey Byrne a formidable player in midfield is the main man. Mikey was the Overall player of the year in the Carlow league and Damian Lock picked up the manager of the Year Award.
