Age is only a number as Leighlinbridge field well seasoned Junior side

Who said the lifespan of a GAA player is getting shorter!

On Tuesday last Leighlinbridge fielded a Junior C side that contained a number of ‘seasoned’ campaigners.

47 year old Johnny Kavanagh spearheaded the attack at centre forward with his 4o year old brother Brian ‘Flossy’ on the wing beside him.

While the inside forward line of Dan Kearney, Damien ‘Rambo’ Clarke and Sean Haughney provided a combined age of 141!

In fact the only forward under the age of 40 was Eric Hanley who is twenty years younger than the next oldest forward.

So this six forwards combined to give an age tally of 248

I’m pretty sure this has to be some kind of record!

There were a few more players who are over 35 material as well but we better not speculate!

Some of the above named players popped a few scores as it turned out and in the end Palatine defeated us by a respectable 1-13 to 0-9.

You gotta love a bit of Junior Football!

Leighlinbridge GFC presents Rory’s Stories in the Lord Bagenal on Friday May 25th at 8.30pm where the above story will surely be brought to life and tickets are on sale at €15.
