After dropping two points at home against UCD in the SSE Airtricity League First Division on a night of missed chances on Friday last, Waterford FC will be looking to bounce back to winning ways against Friday at the RSC on this Friday night.

With Cobh Ramblers overtaken the Blues at the summit of the table as a result of last weekend’s results, Waterford still remain unbeaten in their last nine league games but haven’t won in their last two league games against Cabinteely and the Students.

The Blues produced their best performance of the season in front of their home faithful on Friday last but had to settle for a share of the spoils after missing numerous chances in the contest and they’ll be looking forward to putting that right against Shelbourne.

Speaking ahead of the Shelbourne game, Waterford FC midfielder Shane O’Connor said, “While playing against Dundalk on Monday is fantastic to get everybody involved in the squad games, our bread and butter now is the league. Cups are a good attraction when come around but we now much remain focussed on the challenge of getting out of the first division.

“If you ask any Waterford fan that were in Oriel Park where they want to be? They’ll all tell you that they want to be travelling to the top teams around the country so it’s important that we get a win against Shelbourne on Friday night.

“I think that we owe Shelbourne one after the disappointment of dropping two points up in Tolka Park earlier in the season. I thought that we done enough on that night to win the game but we conceded a silly goal that cost us two points.

“We left that slip between our hands so hopefully we’ll be able to get back to winning ways at home. We didn’t get the win last week against UCD but I thought that we were brilliant. It was probably our best performance of the season. We were brilliant all over the field but just couldn’t get the win.

“We missed a lot of chances so it’s vital that we take those chances that come our way against Shelbourne on Friday night. We need to get back to winning ways but also to try get back on top of the table again.”

Kick off is set for 7.45pm at the RSC.

Kenny Browne, Ian McLoughlin and Sander Puri continue to miss out through injury while Dean O’Halloran has also been ruled out for Friday’s game as he awaits further assessment as to the seriousness of the knee injury he picked up last week against UCD. David McDaid is rated doubtful after going off against Dundalk with a leg injury on Monday while Patrick McClean (shoulder), Gary Delaney (leg) and Anthony McAlavey (foot) will be assessed prior to kick-off.
