New Kilkenny Under-21 manager DJ Carey says that winning the All-Ireland is not the be all and end all.

Speaking exclusively to KCLR, DJ says the main ambition of the management Team is to have the squad prepared for the Challenges of Senior.

“The winning of an All-Ireland to me is not the be all and end all. The number one team in any Club or in any County is the Senior Team”

“It’s my job and whoever the lads are with me will be”

“It will be our job to prepare guys to play Senior Hurling with Kilkenny and for them to win All-Ireland’s, and obviously our ambition is to win an All-Ireland and trying to get everyone to buy into the same thing, and if we do and we are successful that’s brilliant and if they do buy into it and they are not successful, we will have to see where things went wrong”

Meanwhile DJ says that Kevin Kelly is the perfect player to lead Kilkenny forward.

DJ was confirmed as new Kilkenny Under-21 Hurling manager on Monday night at a County Board meeting and speaking to KCLR, he says that Kevin now has the right personality to match his undoubted ability….

“I’ve seen him earlier a couple of times in the year as well with Ballyragget, but he is really coming into his own now and he is the type of player that Kilkenny need going forward”

“People think guys with talent it’s brilliant and it’s great and you can transfer that”

“There is also personality needed, not just hurling ability and skill and all that”

“Personality is needed, that doesn’t mean you have to roar, shout, bawl, scream the players down on the field, but that personality needs to come out on the field and certainly I have seen that in Kevin over the last two years and thank god we have a player like him in Kilkenny”
